Kylian Mbappé (25) has officially become the majority owner of Ligue 2 club Stade Malherbe de Caen, according to the club’s announcement. Mbappé’s investment firm, Coalition Capital, has acquired the 80% stake previously held by American asset management company Oaktree for an estimated €15 million, as reported by L’Equipe. Minority stakeholder Pierre-Antoine Capton will keep a 20% share. Coalition Capital is a venture capital entity within Interconnected Ventures, a company founded by Mbappé, aiming to foster “growth and innovation in sports, media, and investment.”Ziad Hammoud, the CEO of Interconnected Ventures and a former beIN Media group executive, is anticipated to become the new president of SM Caen, while Olivier Pickeu is expected to step down. Hammoud expressed enthusiasm about advancing Stade Malherbe Caen’s development alongside PAC Invest, Capton’s firm. “Our commitment as the primary investor is to continue the growth of Stade Malherbe Caen, in collaboration with PAC Invest,” Hammoud said. “Our joint vision with the club emphasizes sporting excellence and community involvement, and we are dedicated to creating a thriving environment for emerging talents while upholding the club’s identity with vigor and ambition.”


 


Caen concluded the last Ligue 2 season in sixth place. The Normandy team will kick off the upcoming season with a home match against Paris FC.
