Ancelotti: “Tchouameni is ruled out for the Champions League final”

The Italian confirms the extent of Tchouameni’s injury.

Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media before Real Madrid’s final league game of the season vs Real Betis, and talked about a few topics, most notably about Aurelien Tchouameni’s race to be fit for the UEFA Champions League final, to which he said: “He is ruled out for the final, but he will arrive for the Euros.”

Ancelotti on Toni Kroos

“I don’t think it was a difficult decision for him, Veteran players, legends, have to choose their destiny. Toni has made that decision, and it must be respected. We have to say goodbye to him as best we can. I respect his decision, it is that of a man with balls.”

Ancelotti on saying goodbye to Kroos

“I was convinced. Saying goodbye like this would be ideal. Then you have to have the courage to do it, and I have a lot of respect for what he has done. One of his technical qualities is very difficult to find, but it is not what we are thinking. We think about preparing for the final to win it. Trying to change his mind was not easy. There were no tears.”

Ancelotti on Kroos’ greatness

“Very high and very consistent performances, without losses. One of the few who knows how to manage game time with possession. His success in passing is unique. He has contributed a lot to football. He is one of the best midfielders in history.”

Ancelotti on how difficult it will be to replace Kroos

“Replacing someone like him is almost impossible, but this squad has resources in young people so that they take responsibility and follow the path set over the last ten years. Every year they lose pieces, but they don’t lose the atmosphere, the attitude and the commitment, they have to maintain the clean environment that exists. It depends on each person, but I don’t think it was a difficult decision for him.”

Ancelotti on whether Mario Martin can become a first-team player

“He is progressing very well, he can be in the squad without a problem, he has quality and a good attitude. He, like other youth players, can think in the future that he will be in the first team.”

Ancelotti on Nacho’s decision

“He hasn’t decided yet, we are waiting, but we are in no hurry. After the season, he will be able to choose what he wants to do next season. For now, his idea is to try to win.”
