Kylian Mbappe Says He ‘Can’t Wait’ To Join Real Madrid But Won’t Support It In UCL Final

Kylian Mbappe said he "can't wait" to join his next club, widely believed to be Real Madrid, but was tight-lipped on whether he will support Los Blancos in the Champions League final when speaking to CNN.

Mbappe has already announced that he won't renew his Paris Saint-Germain contract which expires on June 30, and though neither he nor Madrid have confirmed that they have reached an agreement, his free transfer to Spain is widely-believed to be a done deal."I want to be happy," Mbappe said, after winning the Best Men’s Player at the Globe Soccer Awards Europe Edition.

"I will leave my country for the first time. It’s going to be an amazing experience and I can’t wait to be in my new club. I want to win trophies … When you speak about football, [it’s about] winning trophies, being with new teammates," he added.

"Now, I have my contract with PSG … Everybody knows that it’s soon finishing and we’re going to see what happens."

Mbappe was of course thought to be on his way to the Bernabeu the last time his terms at PSG were winding down in 2022.

At the last minute, however, he was convinced to renew by the Ligue 1 winners as part of a lucrative arrangement which helped him top Forbes' list of the World's Highest-Paid Soccer Players that year.

As Mbappe explained, however, there was more to the deal than meets the eye.

"It was more than just staying at PSG. It was the World Cup in Qatar. It was many things around these things. It was a big decision, a difficult decision … but I don’t regret anything," he said.

"Of course, in a career, you have to take difficult decisions and it’s what I did, but I became the all-time top scorer with PSG. I just want to remember the best things … It was not an easy situation and I wish nobody to live that."

In addition to becoming PSG's top scorer, Mbappe won every trophy on offer at the Parc des Princes, though the Champions League eluded him.

"I think it’s part of the journey," he suggested. "I have, of course, many opportunities more to win the Champions League, but I think it’s part of your destiny.

"We were close a few times … It’s part of the game. Now I’m in the position that I only want to have good feelings, good memories about my journey in Paris, and everything that happened in this club, and don’t [want to] forget about the small details."

Madrid is of course on the cusp of being crowned the King of Europe for a record-extending 15th time providing it can get past Borussia Dortmund in a Wembley decider at the weekend.

Despite most likely being Madrid-bound, however, Mbappe insisted he won't be picking sides.

"No – I’ll just watch the final like you," he said with a smile. "When you love football, you watch every game.

"I watch every game when I can … in France, England, Spain, Germany, Italy. Every league. So, of course, I’m going to watch the Champions League," Mbappe concluded on this.
