Real Madrid Star Tipped to Leave – “Not Happy with the Prospect of Being the Eternal No. 2”

Ukrainian football legend Igor Belanov, a former forward for clubs like Borussia Monchengladbach and Dynamo Kyiv, recently backed Real Madrid star Andriy Lunin to leave the club in an interview with WinWin.

Belanov on Lunin’s Future

Belanov highlighted that Thibaut Courtois will remain Real Madrid’s number one goalkeeper, relegating Lunin to the bench despite his impressive 2023/24 season. “I cannot agree that Andriy Lunin returns to the bench behind Courtois next season. His contract expires in 2025, and Lunin is in no rush to renew,” Belanov said (h/t Diario AS).

The upcoming European Championship, according to Belanov, could be a key opportunity for Lunin to showcase his talents and attract interest from top clubs across Europe. “He understands that now it is very important for him to show himself at the Euro since scouts from many important clubs in the world will be watching him. If Lunin plays successfully, Real Madrid will receive many offers from top clubs and possibly release Lunin,” he added.

Lunin’s Future This Summer

Belanov emphasized that Lunin is unhappy with the prospect of being the eternal number two at Real Madrid and will want to leave for a club where he can play consistently. Lunin has already been linked with several top European clubs, including Arsenal, which is reportedly considering a €25 million move for the goalkeeper.

Belanov Suggests Bayern Munich Move

Belanov also urged Lunin to consider a move to Bayern Munich, who are looking for a replacement for Manuel Neuer. “The press has already reported the interest of Bayern Munich, which needs a replacement for Manuel Neuer,” he said.

With a limited budget, Lunin could be an appealing target for Bayern Munich, who are preparing for significant changes under new coach Vincent Kompany.
