Jude Bellingham Could Face Punishment for Lewd Gesture Against Slovakia

Jude Bellingham might face UEFA sanctions following his controversial gesture during England’s dramatic Euro 2024 victory over Slovakia. The Real Madrid star saved his team with a stunning overhead kick, sending the match into extra time, where Harry Kane scored the winning goal, setting up a quarter-final clash against Switzerland.

However, Bellingham was caught making a lewd gesture towards the Slovakian bench. Initially accused of provoking the Slovakian team, Bellingham clarified that the gesture was meant for friends in the stands, calling it an “inside joke.”

In response to the viral video, Bellingham tweeted: “An inside joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight.”According to the laws of the game, any ‘obscene gesture’ or ‘offensive or insulting action’ could result in a red card. UEFA is awaiting the match official’s report before deciding on any potential punishment.

Bellingham also addressed his passionate celebration after scoring, where he raised his arms and shouted “Who else?” He explained, “The adrenaline gets you. Playing for England is enjoyable but also a lot of pressure. You hear people talk a lot of rubbish. It’s nice when you can deliver and give them a little bit back.”

He added that football allows him to express himself freely, and scoring such a crucial goal brought immense relief and joy, especially in the high-stakes environment of international knockout football.

England’s next challenge is against Switzerland, with Bellingham’s participation potentially under review depending on UEFA’s decision.
